Speaker Series #2

March 11th, 2019

SNPhA continues to host their Speaker Series into the Spring Semester. Our second speaker of the semester is Dr. Nicole Albanese, PharmD. She talked to P1 students about how she found her niche in Ambulatory Care and how she made a name for herself individualizing and managing diabetic patient care. She talked to students about her perception of how pharmacy continues to grow and where she sees pharmacy growing; that is, outpatient care will be what drives pharmacy in the future.

PTES offered blood pressure readings and RTR offered condoms for students. Students also engaged in games that involved debunking common myths about health.

SNPhA starts off our highly anticpated Speaker Series by welcoming Dr. Calvin J. Meaney, PharmD. Dr. Meaney talked to the students about the career paths he took, including pursing both a PGY-1 and a subsequent fellowship before he settled into academia. Dr. Meaney gave students tips on how to obtain a residency and also gave some insightful ideas for experiential rotations. We are so excited to have him be the first person in our Speaker Series! Apple Harvest

SNPhA Goes Apple Picking

September 23rd, 2018

The first social event of the semester! SNPhA kicked it off by having an apple picking event at Smith's Orchard Cider Mill where members went apple picking, drank apple cider, and had fresh donuts! What a wonderful way to bid goodbye to the summertime and welcome the crisp fall weather with open arms. Amidst the busy pharmacy school schedule, students came together to have a little bit of fun and get to know each other. SNPhA isn't all business- we have fun too! If you missed us, join us next time for our other social events!

1st GBM of Fall 2018

September 5th, 2018

SNPhA offers a hardy welcome back to students returning from summer vacation and a massive welcome to the incoming class of 2022. We held our first GBM at Kapoor Hall where the Initiative Chairs briefly talked about their plans for the new year. The enticing P1 Liaison position was also talked about offering new pharmacy students the chance to become involved. The turn out was amazing. It was great to see all the bright new faces and we are excited to see what these pharmacy leaders will bring to the table.

Spring into Health at Weinberg

April 21st, 2018

At a recent health fair, SNPhA members were able to provide counseling regarding general health, diabetes and chronic kidney disease. The majority of the patients were seniors who were curious and wanted to learn more about diabetes and other conditions that they were diagnosed with. Students were able to elaborate on tips such as the plate method and carb counting. SNPhA students were also able to review medications that a group of seniors were currently on.

Compounding at the Boys & Girls Club

April 5th, 2018

SNPhA members held a fun compounding event with the Boys and Girls Club. We were able to make foam soap and hand-sanitizers with about 70 elementary and middle school children! In addition, SNPhA members were able to educate about pharmacist roles, poison prevention, nutrition and the importance of exercise. A huge shout-out to our service chair, Gurjot, for setting up this amazing event! And, a special thank you to Professor Reiman for all his help!

 13th Annual Tech Savvy Girls:Fair

March 17th, 2018

Tech Savvy is a daylong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference designed to attract girls to these fields and to inform families about STEM education and careers. For the 13th annual Tech Savvy event, members of SNPhA held a booth where participants were taught compounding techniques and allowed to create their very own hand sanitizers and cleansers. The goal is to spread awareness of the idea of "Stay Clean, Stay Healthy!" Keeping our hands clean and making sure to kill off bad bacteria can help reduce the chances of spreading illnesses.

Our Mission

The Student National Pharmaceutical Association is an educational and service association of students who are concerned about pharmacy issues, professional development, and the lack of minority representation in pharmacy and other health-related professions.
